Humility has gotten a bad name in the modern world. To be humble or to be humbled can bring to mind images of low self-esteem or destroying the independence of another.
Humility, though, is infact being able to recognise that all good comes from God. We must acknowledge our own faults and failings, difficult as that can be sometimes. It is by doing so we will learn the joy of trusting God.
We practice it through:
- recognition of our creatureliness and our redeemedness, both being gifts of God’s love
- gratitude for gifts
- a servant’s attitude
- allowing ourselves to be evangelised by the poor
